Justice is in Bloom
August 2023
Since I moved to Buffalo over a decade ago, one thing that has always delighted me about the people of this great City is their overwhelming love for Buffalo. I’m always surprised at how much passion Buffalonians have for their sports, their food and, most of all, for their neighbors. Throughout snowstorms, football wins and losses and everything in between, the City of Good Neighbors shows up for one another when times get tough. Buffalo is a very special place, and the place that I am honored to call my home.
I like to believe that Justice for Migrant Families is a beautiful embodiment of the generosity, light and welcoming nature of this City. Since we began our work in 2016, the support that we have received from people like you has brought dignity and self-determination to migrants and their families time and time again. Indeed, each and every day that I get to come into work, I am humbled by the ways in which everyday people like you show up with your time, resources and, most importantly, your belief that we all belong here.
As Justice for Migrant Families continues our work to support people inside of and being released from immigrant detention, we are also expanding to provide a warm welcome to migrant families arriving in Buffalo after their long and arduous journeys for safety and belonging. In the past month, JFMF staff, volunteers and partners have welcomed over 150 families to the region from NYC. People from around the world are arriving to our communities, and it is because of the support of people like you that we are able to help them meet their own needs and settle into the place that now we all can call home.
As we settle into the final month of summer, we all hope that you can find space for joy, rest and play so that we can all be at our best for what is to come.
