Women’s history month belongs to us all

March, 2024

International Women’s Day, celebrated globally on March 8th, is not a Hallmark holiday. IWD has its roots in the freedom and liberation struggles of women workers around the globe. It celebrates the organizing and leadership of women who demanded safe, quality and well paying jobs, and for beauty to be a central part of our struggles for freedom. From the Lawrence Textile Strike in 1912, to the  Delano Grape Strike from 1965-1970, to our ongoing fights for reproductive freedom and gender justice, we celebrate the fierce women and femmes who have sought to lift up all of us.

This month, we lift up the stories of our sisters and siblings in our movements. We honor Dolores Huerta, Mother Jones, Sylvia Rivera, Lucy Parsons, Grace Lee Boggs, and on and on and on. This month, and every month, we remember that our fights for migrant justice are fights for gender justice, are fights for economic, racial, climate and disability justice. We fight for our bread, but for our roses, too.

Si se puede,

JFMF
